Project overview

PASSER-LARS were awarded a contract for medium term onshore storage of HVDC Offshore Wind Export Cables for a field development in the German North Sea Sector.

After a fast track tendering and feasibility stage, the newly completed DOC-PASSER-LARS Storage & Spooling Yard and Basket Carousel Spread provided the optimum combination for the client’s urgent requirement for cable storage and spooling capacity.

Detailed engineering

Several specific design features were utilised to allow for an efficient equipment mobilisation and commissioning period, and to ensure product integrity:
Modular tower structure allowed for prompt assembly of main component parts on-site
Hook-up and commissioning durations minimised with QD couplings on internal and external manifolds / bulkheads / junction boxes
Pre-calibrated product squeeze settings on 10Te and 15Te tensioners guarantees product integrity in line with cable manufacturers specified values
